6 things to do right now that will improve your brand on social

Want to do something right now that will improve your brand on social media? Pick ‘n’ mix from my six top tips below and you could boost your brand in under 5 minutes…

Go go go go!

  1. Engage

Go and talk to someone on social media. It could be a customer, a stakeholder or an influencer. Something that always improves a brand’s social presence is proof of their engagement. Being social on social media? Groundbreaking! But you’d be surprised at how little some brands engage. So to kick off your improvements on social media, start a conversation.

  1. Spring clean your cover photos & headers

There’s nothing worse than outdates or ill-fitting cover photos/headers/profile photos on social. That’s why it’s important to frequently check across your social pages for any that need updating. Social platforms are constantly updating features so look out for anything new. For example, Twitter recently caused upheaval when they made profile photos circular… a nightmare for brands with square logos! Facebook have also recently introduced video headers. Fancy!

  1. Take advantage of paid promotions

It’s amazing what great results you can get using paid media on social. Even spending a very small amount & having a tight target audience can give you the quick boost you might want. Why not create a new campaign for your brand page, putting a minimal amount of budget behind it, and test it? Facebook is great for local business, and Twitter is great if you’re looking to start conversations. Even Snapchat have now just rolled out an Ad Manager for users. Why not test it out and see what it can do for your brand?

  1. Delete social media accounts you don’t need

With a huge amount of  social networks, it can sometimes feel like the more you’re on, the better it is for your brand. This is not true! It’s much better to have presence on a select few platforms, and create bespoke content for these, rather than posting willy nilly on many random platforms just so you have a presence on them. Keep it simple, reel it back, and take a real think about the strategy behind each of the platforms you’re on.

  1. Take advantage of analytics

If you’re not already looking at analytics on social, it’s definitely time to start.  Assessing social analytics means you can move forward with insight and to ultimately improve your social media presence. It can help define audiences & craft content that ultimately speaks to this audience.

Quick tips for analytics:

  • Track links! Use a link shortener such as bit.ly to tracks links. For more in-depth tracking, create UTM links which makes using Google Analytics very easy!
  • That leads us to Google Analytics. Make use of it. If you find it complicated, there are tons of free resources online, which can provide quite hefty training on it!
  • Make sure you feed this insight into future planning – it can shape content & even the direction your brand takes on social.

  1. Set up a PPC campaign

A final point – set up a Google PPC campaign for search. This doesn’t have to be expensive, and it can act as a net for capturing people who may have heard of you, but haven’t followed you on social media. Like advertising on social, this does not have to be expensive – as the name suggests, you only pay for the clicks you get – so crafting a very targeted campaign means you’ll only get the clicks you want, and pay for the clicks you want too!
